Claytan was founded in 1920 by Mr. Tan Soon Heng, a ceramic artisan and a Teochew native from the southern province of Guangdong, China. He came to Malaysia during the 1st World War and started a cottage workshop in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur. In 1957, his son Mr. Tan Chong Cheng took over and expanded the company. When he passed away in 2016, Tan Chong Cheng’s third son, Mr. Tan Chong Jen, took over the Claytan family business.
To produce good ceramic tableware products that are at par with well-known international tableware brands, Claytan utilizes Japanese and British technologies and uses the exclusive ‘Underglaze Decoration’ technology along with Direct Transfer Pad Printing and 3-Pin Firing.
Today, Claytan is the largest mechanized ceramic tableware manufacturer and the only surviving pioneer in the ceramic industry in Malaysia. It is exported and marketed in 53 countries with Australia, Japan, Europe, UK, USA, Asia Pacific, and the ASEAN region among others. Claytan products follow the U.S.A. Food and Drug Administration (USA-FDA) and California Proposition 65 standards. It also achieved international recognition for product excellence and product design. Claytan is sought after by top industry players and prestigious companies and it’s most preferred by original equipment manufacturers (OEM) worldwide.
Claytan Tableware is distributed in the Philippines by Much Prosperity Trading International, Inc. (MPTII), one of the best distributors and suppliers of quality houseware products in the country and the company behind Omega Houseware.
